A spraydeck ( sprayskirt in North America, meilisaq or tuiitsoq in Greenland) is a flexible waterproof cover for the boat (especially for kayaks or canoes) with holes for the passenger's waist. Spraydeck is used to prevent water entering the boat while allowing passengers to paddle or paddle.
Spraydeck is used to break waves, on whitewater, in bad weather, and in exciting sports. The alternative is tuilik.

Construction
Spraydeck made of waterproof fabric. The size fits over the opening, or the cockpit, from a canoe or kayak, with a hole to the waist of the passengers. Spraydeck generally seals around the edge of the cockpit and around the torso of each passenger.
Every opening in spraydeck should make a seal quite waterproof. The seals vary in quality. Decks can be made to cover in several ways, including elastic fabrics, ends containing elastic straps and/or straps, and both.

Kayak spraydeck
Spraydecks are used by kayakers in most conditions, but mainly on crude water and bad weather, to prevent water from entering the cockpit and kayaker to help kayaker roll.
In kayaks, the spraydeck is secured to the rim around the cockpit with a line or elastic strap called rand. Lines or strings often run inside edges along the edges of spraydecks. In addition, the elastic cord is mounted directly to the edge of the spraydeck, and is fastened around the edges of the cockpit kayak or stretched over it.
Binding can be pulled tight or held in such a way by its elasticity, it prevents water infiltration while allowing passengers to quickly release it if the boat has to be reversed. To aid in easy release during reversing, the fastening loop is mounted in front of the spraydeck, which kayaker can use to attract free spraydeck. Spraydeck that is tightly closed will allow the kayaker to do an eskimo roll and keep pedaling without having to get out.
Spraydeck kayaker is also known as " sprayskirt ", because he is wearing a skirt before entering the boat. "Sprayskirt" is a more common term in the US.
Spraydeck for traditional kayaks is narrower, to fit the custom-tailored cockpit; mass-produced kayaks have a larger cockpit and spraydecks should therefore be wider at the edges.
Canoe spraydeck
In the canoe, the spraydeck is secured to the outside of the stomach with a rope or strap to a special web fitted for this purpose. The modern design has many features for safety and comfort such as maps and paddlebags, access openings, and straps.
Like kayaking, spraydeck will allow a canoer to do a roll kayak (provided he is tied to a canoe) and keep pedaling without having to get out. But this maneuver is more difficult.
On the canoe, it's not just a security item but can also be used for comfort. During rain or cold weather, it keeps the lower body of the canoers dry and warm, and prevents rain from building puddles at the bottom of the boat.
Materials
The most appropriate material depends on the temperature/time of year and the type of water being swung. The lime spray is made entirely from neoprene, while the freshwater spray of touring/sea kayaks can be made from any of the ingredients.
Sealskin
Sealskin is a traditional material for spraydeck. This requires labor-intensive preparation. European Description:
In fine weather, kaiak-man uses what is called a half jacket (akuilisak). It is made of waterproof skin with hair lifted, and sewn with tendon. Its lower margin runs a draw-string, or rather a draw-thong, in a way that the jacket edge can be made to fit very close to the edges of the rings that can only be pushed and lowered more than that with a bit of a problem. This is done, a half-jacket shape, as it were, a tight kaiak extension. The top of the jacket comes close to the armpits of the kaiak-man, and is supported by braces or ropes, which pass over the shoulders and can be extended or shortened by way of a useful runner or buckle bone, so simple and yet so ingenious that we, with all our metal buckles and so on, can not match them. The loose leather arm is made on top of the arm, and is tied to the arm and to the wrist, thus preventing the arm getting wet. Water-resistant gloves are pulled over the hands. Half of this jacket is enough to hold a small wave that washes the kaiak. In the heavier seas, on the other hand, the whole suit (tuilik) is used. It is made in the same way as a half jacket, and, as it is, is suitable for a kayak ring, but longer at the top, has an arm attached to it, and a hood that covers the head. It is attached tightly around the face and wrist, so with it the kaiak-man can penetrate through the breaker and can be reversed and straight again, without getting wet and without allowing a drop of water into the kaiak.

Gut
Sprays (and tuilik) can also be made from the intestines of the marine mammal intestines or bears. The intestines are reversed to clear both sides, then expand to dry. Inflated intestine dries quickly. If it is dry in cold, dark, windy weather, it becomes opaque and white, and is known as "winter gut". "Summer gut" is yellowish and transparent, and more rigid. The intestine is then cleaved open long and strips are sewn into clothing. The finer part of the intestine becomes the outer part of the garment.
Neoprene
These spaydecks are comfortable, tight, thick to keep warm, and fitted very tightly on the cockpit. They can usually withstand rolling, reinforcing and wind and high waves. They sometimes feel uncomfortable during hot weather, but will make the rower very warm during cold conditions. In modern neoprene spraydecks, rand is usually an elastic strap that attaches directly to the edge of the spraydeck.
Nylon
Spraydeck nylon is easy to install, easy to remove, offers an adequate seal to keep water out, comfortable, can sometimes breathe, sometimes waterproof and used during warmer conditions. They will have neoprene or nylon for the torso. Nylon spraydeck is less commonly used during rough conditions because it is not fitting properly so it is more likely to inadvertently become free. The permeable fabric is coated polyurethane or coated teflon to make it waterproof.
Other materials
Some spraydecks are made of nylon and neoprene. Spray sprinkles often have additional features to ensure the best seal and greatest durability. Latex can be coated at the bottom of the deck to hold the cockpit better and/or protective material (eg Kevlar) added to the deck surface to provide abrasion resistance.
