Evolution Festival is a music festival held annually at Newcastle in Tyne and Gateshead, England from 2002 to 2013. The festival attracts tens of thousands of participants every year and usually takes place in Quayside. Evolution Festival is given a short title Orange Evolution because there is a sponsorship deal with Orange mobile phone company. It has been described as "the greatest festival Tyneside ever staged".

Headline performers at the Evolution Festival during its run include Dizzee Rascal, The Wombat, Paolo Nutini and MaxÃƒÆ'Ã‚Â¯mo Park. Florence The Machine, Amy Winehouse and Ellie Goulding all appeared in Evolution before the peak of their fame.

In 2014 the Evolution Festival did not take place, and although organizers claimed it was only a "pause" the show has not been held since. Smaller events featuring local bands, Evolution Emerging , continue to be held annually.

Evolution Festival started in 2002. In 2003 the show took place at Quayside for the first time, with performances from Moloko, Biffy Clyro, and Inspiral Carpets. In 2004, due to funding restrictions, Evolution returned to multi-venue format including the Shindig show underlined by Eric Morillo and Deep Dish. Evolution returned to Quayside in 2005, sponsored by Orange's mobile phone network and featured a three-stage show directed by Dizzee Rascal and The Futureheads. Major Tyneside exports MaxÃƒÆ'Ã‚Â¯mo Park became the 2007 event headline. In 2008, the festival ended its sponsorship with Orange and became known as the Evolution Festival, and introduced entry fees - for Ã‚ Â£ 3 - for the first time.

In 2009 the festival became a two day event with performances from The Wombats, White Lies, and Florence The Machine. A folk stage was added in 2010. In 2012 Evolution organizers held a one-off edition of the festival at Avenham Park, Preston as part of the Preston Guild celebration. The one-day event, titled GFest , featured performances from Maverick Saber, Labrinth and Stooshe and attracted thousands of festival goers. The 2013 edition of Newcastle's main event featured The Vaccines, Ellie Goulding, Paloma Faith, and Jake Bugg.

In 2014 the Evolution Festival did not take place, although promoters Jim Mawdsley and Dave Stone said that it was not the end of the Evolution Festival. This festival, however, has not been held since 2013 and no news about the relaunch has been announced. The Evolution brand continues through Evolution Emerging, a variety of venues featuring new bands from the local area.
