Hannah's character is part of a new family unit featured in an event called Ashworths, they move into the old Hunter family's home. Her parents are Neville and Suzanne and Rhys and Josh brothers in 2005. Hannah's storyline was initially quite light, like playing pranks on her brother Josh and Fletch's cousin by pretending to be a 'fairy tale' Hollyoaks. (Although Hannah is currently 16 years old, actress Emma Rigby is still 15 years old and therefore subject to child labor laws in the UK that limit her availability for filming).
Casting
Auditions were held for Hannah's part and actress Emma Rigby went on to get a share. Over the course of several stories the actress commented that playing the character is sometimes sad and tiring but should say this about one of the plot: "I just threw myself into it, really.I do not want it to be unrealistic or disrespectful to the person suffering illness and I also do not want to glorify it.
It was announced on November 8, 2008 that Rigby has decided to quit the show to pursue another project, but his character will remain on screen until June 2009. On March 2, 2009 it was announced that Rigby has renewed his contract by six months after new producer Lucy Allen convinced him to stay with the promises of a 'juicy' outflow. He was later scheduled to leave in December 2009. It was later confirmed he would leave early in 2010.

Development
Personality and identity
After sunny and out, tragedy has sacrificed his character. The Channel 4 publicity commented that the character's storyline is the factors that affect the character's self-esteem by enduring the constant drama that revolves around his family, dumped by his girlfriend, and Grace Hutchinson's death all contribute to the bulimia's development of his illness. Hannah then becomes much more confident and in control of her life. Hannah is also known to be a bit ditzy and sometimes pampered.
Relationships
The first relationship of the character came when a storyline saw him fall in love with his classmate, John Paul McQueen. Their friends at the time Sarah and Craig, also dating and matching them as a couple. Although at first the relationship seemed to work well, John Paul was clearly uncomfortable and his doubts made the relationship turbulent. When they finally slept together, John Paul realized that he did not want to have a relationship with Hannah and broke up with him. Hannah does not know that John Paul really struggled with her sexuality, which she tried to hide by pretending to be interested in Sarah. Although John-Paul openly declared his love for Craig at Hannah's 18th birthday party, it was not until the following month that Hannah saw the couple kissing. The character was reluctant to let John Paul go, until he finally admitted his sexuality, which ruined him. With the hope of reconciliation he remains friends with her. During this period he tried to sabotage John Paul's new relationship with Spike. It was a farewell to John Paul who sent him into a spiral of bulimia and anorexia.
It was not until the character was on the road to recovery that he had a new romance on screen. Hannah starts a relationship with Danny Valentine and their relationship is characterized by a lack of wisdom in some issues. She also agrees to stand beside her knowing she is fragile from her ordeal with eating disorders. The characters often break up and make peace but eventually they end their relationship after he is unfaithful.
After the collapse of his relationship with Sarah Barnes, Elliot realizes he and Hannah will be more suitable. When Hannah decides to run for Student Entertainments Officer, Elliot cheats for her. Hannah is very angry when she knows but with time they become attracted to each other. They then start dating; But Elliot immediately shows sexual self-consciousness and avoids facing problems by spending more time with his father, Neville, with whom he shares his interests with robots and rockets. Their relationship then ended.
Hannah then has a brief relationship with a small celebrity named Matt and Ash Roy then tries to win Hannah's attention. He is fascinated by his good looks and his rich lifestyle. She took her to dinner with her sister Leila Roy and her boyfriend Justin Burton. It did not go well when Justin and Ash quarreled. Hannah did not realize at that moment that Justin fell in love with her. However, he soon realizes that it is Justin he dislikes Ash and the couple sharing a kiss that causes Justin to break up with Leila the next day.
After a motorcycle accident leave Hannah fighting for her life, blamed on Justin. Unknown to Justin at the time, actually was Ash who had ruined the bike, intending Justin to ride him instead of Hannah. He later revealed however by Leila that it was Ash who caused the accident. This causes Hannah to break up with Ash and apologize to Justin. Although Justin initially did not want to know because he could not forgive Hannah for thinking it was he who almost killed her, Hannah confessed her original feelings at a concert at SU Bar where Mcfly played. Justin then tells Hannah how she feels and both end up getting together and sharing a kiss, which Ash sees and walks out.
Hannah confesses to Justin that she did relapse, but after all Ash hid food in her room incident. Justin then proceeds to be honest with Hannah and recognizes his darkest secret, that he helps Warren bury Sean Kennedy's body.
Justin and Hannah eventually gather together, but someone burns the apartment with Warren and Hannah in it. Warren seems to be killed (though back for later plot) but Justin manages to save Hannah. They hope to be together but Justin is blamed for the fire and decides to escape. Justin says he will go with Hannah, but cheats and goes without him because he does not want her to suffer with life on the run. Hannah is desperate.
Later, Darren and Hannah were married on a drunken road trip. Hannah arrives home and refuses to divorce because she is so young. They then move together and begin to look after each other.
Storylines
The development of his first plot of any real note came when Nancy and Hannah took care of Tony and daughter Mandy Hutchinson, Grace. Grace died that night due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Hannah was traumatized by the experience but in time Hannah managed to move away from Grace's death and resume her life.
Controversial eating disorder
Hannah came to the fore in Hollyoaks between 2005-2007, in the middle of a controversial storyline involving eating disorders anorexia nervosa and bulimia. The storyline attracts a lot of positive attention from the press and viewers.
On New Year's Eve 2006, during his difficult relationship with John Paul, Hannah begins to eat and cleanse. When John Paul admits he is gay, Hannah is convinced that she has made it this way and believes she is overweight and undesirable. Hannah continues to eat and clean regularly. It quickly evolves into a vicious cycle of behavior, and has a devastating effect on his personality. After eating the family, Hannah makes an excuse to go to the bathroom, where she will throw her food away. Hannah is seen eating chocolate and candy and then making herself sick.
After six months, Hannah's bulimia is aggravated by the appearance of Sarah's model friend Melissa Hurst. Hannah's bulimia turns into anorexia and Melissa (her former anorexic bulimia) offers some tips for losing weight silently to become a model. Melissa added Hannah's compulsive eating habits, even taking food from Hannah so she was not 'tempted'. Melissa tells Hannah that they will only drink water and eat very little.
John Paul and Sarah become suspicious of weight loss and Hannah's behavior change, also mistakenly believe that he used drugs after Sarah misinterpreted a private conversation between him and Melissa. Hannah then fainted because of her anorexia. Suzanne also became increasingly worried about Hannah, and her anxiety was triggered by Sarah's assertion that Melissa had a bad effect on Hannah and that she was afraid they were taking drugs to stay thin. Suzanne confronts Hannah about Sarah's accusations, but she denies everything and her mother agrees to give her the benefit of the doubt. Hannah then lights Sarah and Gilly and is cruel to them.
Melissa then proudly exemplifies the size zero dress in front of Hannah, who is sad she can not get into the dress herself. He was later convinced by Melissa that Hannah would one day be able to enter into it. As Hannah and Melissa continue to starve, Gilly is even more convinced that Hannah is taking drugs. Annoyed by his annoyance, Hannah threatens Gilly that unless she keeps removing her nose, she will claim that she sexually assaulted her. Despite this, Gilly expresses his concern for Suzanne, who reacts by throwing Melissa out of the house after Melissa tells her that she and Hannah have taken the pace to try to cover up their eating habits.
The character then turns back to his friends and begins to fall further under the influence of Melissa. The situation arose when Rhys returned from France and decided to hold a barbecue. When Melissa tried to hit Rhys and refused to let Hannah eat a burger, Rhys told Melissa to leave. Melissa then fell into a coma in the street caused by her anorexia and was rushed to the hospital. Hannah is surprised to find her in intensive care. With Suzanne still convinced Hannah to consume drugs, Hannah tried to convince her mother that her behavior was recently because Gilly had sexually harassed her. Rhys then throws Gilly out. When she visited Melissa at the hospital, she was shocked to see Melissa sick and stuck in a drip. Hannah starts applying make-up to Melissa's face, because Melissa is so weak she can not open her lip gloss. Melissa asks how she saw where Hannah replied "Awesome". Melissa told her that she thought so. There was a montage that showed Melissa's machines, droplets, and bones sticking out. Hannah also told Melissa that she was the best thing that ever happened to her.
Death of anorexia and public reactions
His family then found out about his condition. After the days of abuse from Rhys, which Suzanne hunted and the conditions misunderstood by Neville, Hannah felt she needed to escape, and fabricated a plan to escape the country with Melissa, in fear that if Melissa kept her force-fed she would get fat. Breaking his friend out of the hospital, the duo had to go back to Hannah's house to get her passport. Confronted by a confused Suzanne, Melissa fainted from a heart attack, caused by a lack of food and body abuse, and died shortly after. Hannah then hugged Melissa's body and started crying hysterically.
From the storyline screen gets a lot of press attention because the character is the first person to die on screen in every British Soap Opera aired as a result of eating disorders but is gathered with praise for pointing out the harsh reality of the distractions. Some media coverage misreported that it was Hannah's character who was about to die. Then show producer Bryan Kirkwood stated: "If one viewer gets help as a result of this storyline, then it will be worthwhile." With actress Emma Rigby giving a suggestion message stating:
Aftermath
On the screen, Hannah's character then finds it hard to forget her friend's death and live with everything she's ever told her to keep losing her own weight. Hannah began to hide the seriousness of her illness from her family. In an attempt to hide the truth from her mother, Hannah tries out new looks and styles, even asks for food, but hides it. It all became too much when Hannah was caught in the middle of an argument between Sarah and John Paul, where Hannah started having a panic attack. Both Suzanne and Sarah tried to convince themselves that this was a delayed reaction to her condition, after the search for her room initially found no sign of hidden food. Then, after realizing the carpet had been pulled, Suzanne discovered the rotting food remains that Hannah was hiding under the floorboards.

She eats all the food until she gets sick but then realizes that she does not want to go down that path again.

Still feeling sad after parting from Justin, Hannah was drunk and met a member of the Stav band who took her and Darren at the weekend to Denmark. Upon returning, Darren revealed that the couple had actually been married. They then agreed to cancel their marriage. However, Cindy tells Darren (with whom he plans to deceive Tony from his money) that marrying Hannah he can regain control of The Dog. After realizing this, Darren ran to Hannah and convinced her to re-think about the cancellation. However, Jamie and Hannah return without drugs. Jamie lies to Hannah and Kev says she has no drugs and this causes Kev to threaten to kill Hannah with a gun to her head.
