History
Founded in 1909 under the name H. â ⬠<â â¬
One newspaper ad for trainee management asked: 'Will curly hair go in? Will maxis make it? 'However, the shops never really have to cope with the boutique culture of the sixties. The author Margret Geraghty who worked there for some time in the late sixties remembered that all salespeople had to wear nylon uniforms: 'They are ceres with buttons on the front. Forget the dolly birds. They are more like canteens assistants. 'There is also a blue nylon with a zipper on the back and a turtle's neck with a bow, which is very difficult to replace, and the assistants usually have to exchange each other. The exception is the store manager, who is allowed to wear his own clothes.
The Arcadia Group, then doing business as Burton Group, bought Dorothy Perkins in 1979.
The Arcadia Group has a training program, which offers employees financial incentives to expand their responsibilities and knowledge of the company and business dealings.
