Plot

Mr. Miyagi traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to attend the praise of the Japanese-American soldiers, who fought on the 442th Regiment Combat Team during World War II. He met Louisa Pierce, the widow of his commanding officer, Lieutenant Jack Pierce. At Pierce's house they chased past and war stories.

Miyagi is introduced to Pierce's granddaughter, Julie, a teenage girl who struggles with anger problems because of the death of her parents in a car accident. His behavior has caused friction between Julie and her grandmother, along with her fellow students. She sneaks into school at night to take care of the wounded eagle, which she names Angel, which she keeps in the pigeon cage on the roof.

Miyagi invites Louisa to stay at her home in Los Angeles to enjoy the peace and tranquility of taking care of her garden while she lives in Boston as Julie's nanny. At school, Julie meets and befriends Eric McGowen, a security guard in training and a promise for a shady school safety fraternity, Alpha Elite. Members are taught to enforce school rules, mostly by using physical force, by a fake colonel, Dugan. In this group is Ned, the short fused leader and the toughest, strongest, and most aggressive student of Dugan, who makes repeatedly unsuccessful sexual advances on Julie. Eric learns about Angel and promises to feed him while Julie is with Miyagi.

When Julie survives nearly hit by a car by jumping into the tiger's position, she reveals to Miyagi that she is taught karate by her father, who learns from her grandfather, Miyagi's student. The next time he sneaks into school to feed the bird, he is detected by Alpha Elite, and is pursued through school. Julie hid in the cafeteria until Ned found her, at which point she hit the fire alarm with her rucksack, causing Ned to let her go. Escape from school, he was arrested by police and suspended for two weeks by Colonel Dugan. Miyagi used this time to take Julie to the Buddhist monastery to teach her the true ways of karate and how to deal with her anger problems.

Julie learns through direct learning about balance, coordination, awareness and respect for all life. He befriended several monks, including the Grand Abbot. The monks held a birthday party for him, gave him a cake and arrow that Miyagi caught while flying in a Zen archery demonstration.

Upon returning to Julie's school, he discovers that Angel can now fly, and Miyagi helps Julie in releasing the birds back into the wild. In preparation for the prom, Miyagi taught Julie how to dance, and bought her a dress. While Julie goes to the prom with Eric, Miyagi and the Buddhist monks go bowling. A local player challenges them, loses the match, and receives their guidance. Under the command of Colonel Dugan, Alpha Elite bungee jumps to prom. When one member broke his arm, Eric expressed concern, but Ned told him to think about his own business.

Eric drove Julie home and kissed her. Ned followed them, and smashed Eric's car window with a baseball bat. Ned challenges Eric to fight on the dock, and joins Colonel Dugan and Alpha Elite. They burned Eric's car and beat him cruelly, but Eric was saved by Julie and Miyagi.

Ned tries to grab Julie, but he challenges her to fight. He holds his own, using the karate he has learned, until Ned cheats by throwing sand on his face. Despite his losses, Julie defeats Ned and returns him to him. Colonel Dugan bullied the rest of the group to continue the fight, but they refused. Miyagi challenged Colonel Dugan to fight and win, leaving Alpha Elite disappointed with their instructor. The film ends with a free-flying Angel on the water.

Production

All high school and interior scenes were filmed on the Brookline High School campus, except for the scene in the gym. The exterior shots are the Brookline High School gym, but the interior is the Cousens Gymnasium at Tufts University. Another scene of the film was taken in the Boston area. For example, the scene at Julie's home was filmed in nearby Newton.

The first three films in the series, featuring Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso, were set in Los Angeles, California. In this film, the setting is changed to Boston, Massachusetts.

Mr. Approach Miyagi's karate-training is also different, although she still has Julie washing the car ("Wax on, wax off") to teach her how to block punches and kicks. In the early 1984 film, Daniel used to think karate came from a Buddhist temple; Miyagi scolds him, "You watch too much TV." (The Shaolin Buddha Temple is actually some of the original locations of kung fu. ) In The Next Karate Kid Miyagi actually trains Julie in a Japanese monastery.

Since Hilary Swank was able to learn sophisticated "flashy" movements and had problems with budding movements, Pat E. Johnson, a martial arts choreographer, gave her a "Pink" belt, a mixture of white (beginner) and red (one just under black in a certain style ).

In all four films, the reunion scene is the only time Miyagi actually wore his Medal of Honor. The Medal of Honor is worn on a silk ribbon on the neck, not pinned through a jacket. The only other decoration issued by the United States charged in the same way is the Legion of Merit.

In accordance with the first, second and third movie title changes The Karate Kid for their release in Japan, The Next Karate Kid renamed Best Kid 4 ??????? 4/ Besuto kiddo 4 ); a major and obvious change is that the title of the translation of this film now explicitly identifies it as the fourth in the series.

John G. Avildsen, director of the first three films in the series, came out of this one to support <8 Seconds. As a result, Christopher Cain took over the director's chair.

The Next Karate Kid is the only film in the series in which screenwriter Robert Mark Kamen, who has written all three of the others for the screen, has no credit writing.

The ten-year 1994 hit "You Gotta Be" by Des'ree is shown during the final credits of the film.

Reception

The Consensus film about Rotten Tomatoes is "The Next Karate Kid is important to give the audience a chance to see Hilary Swank's Pre-Oscars, but in addition to the usually solid performance of Pat Morita, this fourth unnecessary installment in the franchise has very few offers." Stephen Holden said it was "probably the most ridiculous episode in the popular series Karate Kid ," a film that "does not even try to achieve surface credibility;" about the only positive thing Holden says about this movie is that Swank made an "interesting debut."

In February 2005, after the release of three DVDs "Karate Kid Collection," Variety magazine was called The Next Karate Kid, a sequel to the elderly, "noting that" Swank's athletic drive shone through "as he would later do in Million Dollar Baby.
