" Miss Susie has a steamboat ", also known as " Hello Operator ", " Miss Suzy ", and many other names, is the name of a rhyme of an American schoolhouse where each verse leads to a harsh or obscene word expressed in the next verse as part of a harmless word or phrase. Originally used as a jump rope rhythm, it is now more often sung on its own or as part of a clapping game. Signatures sometimes accompany the song, like pulling a bell in the first paragraph or making phone cues in seconds.
The song is sometimes combined or confused with "Miss Lucy having a baby", which is sung in the same tone and is also presented as a jump rope song. The song was developed from the much older (and more rustic) songs best known as "Bang Bang Rosie" in the UK, "Bang Away Lulu" in Appalachia, and "My Lula Gal" in the West. Variants including a woman with a crocodile bag urging the baby mother to vote have been seen as a reference to Susan B. Anthony, an American suffrage, and may be responsible for the most common steamboat owner names today.

Structure
Rima is arranged in quatrains, with the A-B-C-B rhyme scheme. Rhymes are governed by their measurers, rhythms springing up in the trimeter. The accent verse (including the rhythm that appears) is a common form in English folk poetry, including nursery rhymes and rope jumping rhymes. Rhymes approached the words taboo, just to cut it and modify it with enjambment. It shares many of the same melodies as the 1937 "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down" used by Warner Bros. as the theme for their cartoons of Looney Tunes.

History
This song has developed many variations over a long period, as is common for such poems. Even the 21st century version, however, usually preserves an outdated reference to the dangers of 19th century steamers and the need for switchboard operators to manually connect phone calls.
The earliest recording version - of a girl named Mary - appeared among the vaudeville jokes collected by Ed Lowry during her career in the 1910s, '20s and' 30s, although the version of Fulton (popular with steamboat discoveries) and Lulu (the star of "Bang Bang Lulu") can record an older tradition. The Lulu tradition - including "Miss Lucy has a baby" - has recorded double enegation during World War, but the first version of this song is known to have done so - a version of Fulton and a girl named Helen - dated to the 1950s.
The next version developed with ornaments: adding, removing, and adjusting stanzas involving kisses, boys in the bathroom, black kids, bra, King Arthur, questions and lies, German spies, chattering aunts & amp; c. While the earliest temple was quite stable at the end of the 20th century, Josepha Sherman, folklorist noted that two unrelated children in the 1990s New York took over from "Miss Lucy" to "Ms. Lucy" just like that. Adaptation - "Miss Lucy has some leeches" - has been recorded by Emilie Autumn and the other - "Mrs. Landers is a health nut" - featured in the episode South Park Something You Can Do With Your Finger ".
