Western Clothes is a category of men's and women's clothing that gained a unique style of clothing worn in the nineteenth-century Wild West. These range from accurate historical reproductions of pioneers, mountain man, Civil War, cowboy outfit and vaquero to stylish outfits popularized by singing cowboys like Gene Autry and Roy Rogers in the 1940s and 1950s. Western attire can be very informal, with t-shirts and blue jeans forming a basic ensemble, or perhaps composed of formal attire adapted to a western accent. At a minimum, western outfits generally combine cowboy hats, leather belts, and cowboy boots.

Hat

In the early days of the Old West it was a bowler hat rather than a humped hat, centercrease (derived from the Hardee cap rule), or sombrero most popular among cowboys as it was less likely to explode in the wind. In the 1870s, however, Stetson has become the most popular cowboy hat due to its use by the Union Cavalry as an alternative to blue-chip rule.

The stamping thread is installed to prevent the cap from being blown off as it rises with speed. These long strings are usually made of leather or horsehair. Typically, the string is run halfway around the crown of a cowboy hat, and then through holes on each side with knotted edges and then secured under the chin or around the back of the head keeping the caps in place in windy conditions or while riding a horse.

The traditional ten-gallon hat traditionally worn by the movie cowboys is not widely used for historical snipers as they make it an easy target, hence the preferences of lawmakers like Wild Bill Hickok, Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson for low-crowned black hats.

Originally part of traditional Indian clothing, sheepskin caps are often worn by mountain men like Davy Crockett for their warmth and endurance. It was revived in the 1950s after the release of a popular Disney movie starring Fess Parker.

Shirt

Western Shirt is a traditional Western Wear that is characterized by a stylish yoke in front and back. These are generally made of denim or tartan with long sleeves, and in modern forms are sometimes seen with snap pockets, patches made of bandana fabric, and edges.

Western shirts are often decorated with piping, embroidered roses and contrasting yokes. In the 1950s it was often used by movie cowboys like Roy Rogers or Lone Ranger from Clayton Moore. Coming from an elaborate Mexican vaquero costume like guayabera and battleshir worn by many Confederate soldiers, it is worn at the rodeo so cowboys can be easily identified. Buffalo Bill was known to wear it with a deer skin jacket during the Wild West show and they were fashionable for teens in the 1970s and late 2000s.

Another common type of Western shirt is the shield front shirt worn by many US Cavalry troops during the American Civil War, but originally from a red shirt issued to prewar firefighters. The cavalry shirt was made of blue wool with yellow pipe and brass buttons and was found by flamboyant George Armstrong Custer. Recently this front shield was popularized by John Wayne at Fort Apache and also worn by rockabilly musicians such as Cats Stray.

Symbol

When a jacket is required, there are many options available for linedancers and historical re-enactors. This included a coat jacket, ponchos popularized by Clint Eastwood's Spaghetti Westerns, a short Mexican jacket with silver embroidery, a popular suburban jacket among the country's villains, southern rocks and heavy 1980s bands, and a lap top coat from a document original used in the Wild West. More modern interpretations include leather vests inspired by biker subcultures and jackets with designs mimicking the stripes of cows. Women can wear bolero jackets from Zouave uniforms of Civil War, scarves, denim jackets in matching colors with their skirts or dresses, or a peripheral jacket like Annie Oakley.

For more formal occasions, Westerners may choose a suit with a "smile" bag, a half belt on the back, a piping, and a yoke similar to those worn on Western shirts. This can be an Ike jacket, a casual shirt or a three button sportcoat. Country and Western singer Johnny Cash is known to wear a black Western suit, in contrast to the elaborate Nudie suit worn by stars like Elvis Presley and Porter Wagoner. The most complicated western outfit is a special job created by rodeo tailors such as Nudie Cohn and Manuel, which are characterized by intricate embroidery and rhinestone embellishments. This type of western outfit, popularized by country musicians, is the origin of the cowboy rhinestone phrase.

Trousers

In the early days of the Wild West pants were made of wool. On summer canvas is sometimes used. This changed during the 1840s Gold Rush when denim overalls became popular among miners due to cheapness and easy breathing. Levi Strauss improved the design by adding copper rivets and in the 1870s this design was adopted by breeders and cowboys. The original Levi jeans were soon followed by other makers including Wrangler jeans and Lee Cooper. These are often accessed with a kippy belt featuring metal conchos and large belt buckles

Skin chaps are often used to protect cowboy legs from cactus spines and prevent cloth from wear and tear. Two common types include skintight rifles and wide batwing chapters. The latter is sometimes made of leather that holds their hair (known as "wool") rather than brownish skin. They appeared in the Great Plains somewhere around 1887.

The women wore knee-high knee-high skirts, red or blue gingham dresses or suede-edged skirts of native American clothing. Saloon girls wore short red dresses with corsets, garter belts, and stockings. After World War II, many women, who returned home after working in fields or factories while men abroad, began wearing jeans like men.

Neckwear

During the Victorian era, men will wear cravats or silk ties to add color to the black or gray clothes they inherit. It continues to be worn by honorable Westerners until the early 20th century. After the Civil War it became common practice among working class veterans to tie bandanas around their necks to absorb sweat and dust off their faces. This practice originated in the Mexican War-era soldiers when troops dumped stocks of hated skin (a kind of collar for soldiers) and replaced them with cheap paisley handkerchiefs.

Another famous Western accessory, tie bolo, is a pioneer invention that supposedly made of an expensive bando. This is a favorite for gamblers and quickly adopted by Mexican families, along with the sleek "Kentucky" style bowtie commonly seen in stereotypical southern men such as Colonel Sanders or Boss Hogg. In modern times it serves as an official dress in many western countries, especially Montana, New Mexico and Texas.
