Captain Trousers is a children's novel series by American author and illustrator Dav Pilkey. The series revolves around two fourth graders, George Beard and Harold Hutchins, who live in Piqua, Ohio, and Captain Underpants, the superhero of one of the children's comic books, who inadvertently became real when George and Harold hypnotized the disease they. tempered principal, Mr. Krupp. Immediately after that, Mr. Krupp gets super power by drinking foreign juice in the third book.
The series includes 12 books and three spin-offs, and won the Disney Adventures Kids' Choice Award on April 4, 2006. The main series of novels has developed an alliteration pattern from the second book - with the exception of the third book, whose title "disturbing the length" becomes a joke in future books.
The Captain Underpants book reported by the American Library Association became the most challenged book of 2012. Dav Pilkey also mentions this on his website. According to the American Library Association, the Pilkey's Captain Underpants series is explicitly banned in some schools for being insensitive and incompatible with age groups, and encouraging children to disobey authority.

In October 2015, the 12th book got controversy because references to Harold became gay. Some elementary schools have banned books for this reason.
Costume
In 2006, the Captain Underpants Halloween costume created controversy at Long Beach High School on Long Island, New York. Three female students dressed as Captain Underpants caused the principal, Nicholas Restivo, to impose a costume ban on all students. The three girls wore creamy shirts and stockings naked under white pants and red robes. According to Principal Restivo, "his appearance is that they are naked."

Movie adaptation
On October 20, 2011, it was reported that DreamWorks Animation has earned the right to make animated films based on Captain Underpants series . On October 25, 2013, it was reported that Rob Letterman would direct the movie, while Nicholas Stoller would write the script. It will be the second film that Letterman and Stoller work together, the first of which is Gulliver's Travels . On January 21, 2014, the players were announced, with Ed Helms joining as Mr. Krupp/Captain Underpants; Kevin Hart as George Beard; Thomas Middleditch as Harold Hutchins; Nick Kroll as a dangerous villain, Professor Poopypants; and Jordan Peele as Melvin, the mortal enemy of George and Harold. On June 12, 2014, the film is scheduled to be released on January 13, 2017. After the reorganization of DreamWorks Animation in early 2015, the studio announced that the film will be produced outside the studio pipe at a much lower cost. This will instead be animated at Citra Mikros in Montreal, Canada, and it will look different from most DWA movies. Reception
Censorship in the United States has targeted the Captain Underpants series after the first book was released in 1997. The Intellectual Liberation Office of the American Library Association reported that Captain Trousers is a series of books with the most complaints of libraries for offensive content in the United States in 2012 and 2013. Some parents accuse the book of having inappropriate language for target book viewers, children enrolled in primary school.
Jessica Roake, in an article published in Slate , argues that the books are perfect for young readers. He writes that "They are interested in them because for the first time in their reading life they are understood, entertained, and filled all at once.This is their own , not ours and exclusive proprietary feelings forge the kind of connections everyone should have with at least one book in their lives.Therefore, most every English teacher I know would be more than happy to take a shot at the ego the Captain provides. "
