Warrior Sports is a manufacturer of lacrosse, ice hockey, and football and apparel equipment from the United States based in Warren, Michigan. The Warrior enters the football market in 2012, producing kit and training equipment for several clubs around the world, although sponsorship and football products are subsequently terminated with the entry of the New Balance parent into the category.

Warrior Sports was founded in 1992 by David Morrow, a former lacrosse player. The name of the company comes from the roots of Morrow as a member of the Brother Rice Lacrosse team, Warriors, in Birmingham, Michigan. The company started as the first producer of titanium lacrosse shafts, which changed the game because of its strength and light weight. Morrow went on to highlight the pivot breakthrough as he played for the Princeton Tigers lacrosse team. He also became an NCAA player this year. In 2004, a private company, New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc. gained interest in controlling the Warrior. One year later, the Warrior moved into the ice hockey industry when it acquired the California-based Innovative Hockey producer.

Controversy

Beginning in July 2012, Warrior Lacrosse is involved in controversy by launching a Twitter marketing campaign where users are put into the lottery to win a pair of free shoes if they use the #ninjaplease hashtag. This campaign has been ridiculed extensively throughout the industry and in the lacrosse world. Because the Warrior is the founding factor in Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and sponsors of all teams, several African-American players in the league have protested, with the possibility of retiring from the league if the controversy is not handled appropriately. Warrior suspends campaigns and MLL removes all references on October 29, 2012, when the meaning of the hashtag used in the campaign is of concern to officials of both organizations.

In April 2011, Warrior Sports reportedly signed a sponsorship deal for Liverpool worth £ 25 million per season in the 2012-13 season, while Carlsberg reduced their annual sponsorship by half, surpassing the £ 23.3 million British club record paid by Nike for supplying Manchester United and an earlier deal from Adidas worth Ã, £ 13 million. On January 18, 2012, Liverpool and Warrior Sports announced an agreement between the two organizations, where the Warrior sponsors an effective Liverpool kit from June 1, 2012. The Boston Bruins training facility of the National Hockey League and home stadium of the Boston Pride of the National Hockey League is named Warrior Ice Arena. Arena, part of a larger project called Boston Landing is owned by the parent company Warrior, New Balance.
